Thank you to the DEVCOM Soldier Center in Natick for hosting the 2nd Annual National Defense Education Program (NDEP) STEM Student Networking Meeting. This was a great opportunity to connect with other local graduate/undergraduate students and DOD scientists in the Synthetic Biology community! We cannot wait to continue contributing to this mission this upcoming school year!

Today we celebrated our senior design team who presented their capstone project “Characterizing Ovarian Cancer Exosomes with SERS” in front of the entire Bioengineering Department, family, and friends. These four students, Olivia Collins (Team Leader), Andrew Medeiros, Trinity Cozby, and Benjamin Pimenta (Feat. L to R) demonstrated superb teamwork and it was a pleasure working with them this semester!

This week, UMass Dartmouth held our annual 3-Minute Thesis Competition, allowing students the chance to hone their academic, presentation, and research communication skills. Beginning on Tuesday, Andrew Medeiros swept the undergraduate round of competition, progressing to the final round and taking home 1st Place AND the People’s Choice Award! On the graduate side, Jordan Pagliuca and Jillian Wilson progressed to the Final Round and Jillian came home with 3rd Place overall! This was a great event sharing ongoing research in a clear and succinct way, congrats to all and can’t wait for next year!

Jordan Pagliuca got some sun this week, traveling to San Diego to present her poster at the Society for Biomaterials Spring Conference! She is coming back with a tan and lots of new ideas gained from networking!
